Bitch Boss Part 2

Updated: Apr 7, 2024

"Never get used to it." The righteous Angel on the right shoulder shakes her head disapprovingly.

The Devil on the left shoulder smirks with his mesmerising red eyes, "Giving in is easiest."

The struggle is real.

It begins every morning precisely at 6.20 am. Splashing cold water on the face helps Susan wake up. Susan has always been a high achiever. Head girl, debating society chairman, school magazine editor, top student at every grade, you name it, she had done it. The best prize came when she was seventeen – the university and the government awarded her a full scholarship to attend university abroad. Her wildest dream had come true. The hard work she put in had built up to this exact moment – the grand entrance to the stage – and let the drums roll. The universe conjured up to propel her. Susan could imagine all the spoils she would take – so did the saying go or so did she think.

Yesterday SHE wrote in the comments to Susan that her main job in this document and going forward is to ensure two spaces after every full stop.

Have you ever experienced the feeling that when you disagree with someone so intensely and have so much to say you become speechless? Thousand thoughts flash across Susan's mind; so many counterarguments, so many derogatory terms she can call SHE, so much cussing she can do. She knows too well that it has nothing to do with the spaces and full stops. It has everything to do with control, power and authority. SHE is telling Susan no matter how much it does not make sense; you WILL do it because I say so.

Bitch Boss.

To tame a wild horse, you need to break her spirit. You do it repeatedly, relentlessly and mercilessly. You rein her in, she kicks, she screams, she struggles. You tighten it more, making her grasp for air. Blood rushes to her head, eyes bulge out. Slowly and gradually, she knows it is a losing game.

"Giving in is easiest."

Susan shrinks herself to the version that other people can accept.

"Never get used to it."

Susan dims herself to the shadow that other people find palatable.

Cold water streaming down the face, Susan stares at herself in the mirror. She does not feel she is on top of the world, perhaps halfway, not the bottom feeder for sure, no. She has done well in most people's eyes. She knows she must be grateful for what she has got. People would kill for what she has. But Susan wants more. She remembers going to one of the management training classes. The trainer asked about the achievement that she is most proud of. Suddenly, Susan's mind went blank. She had no answer to the question. The trainer gave her more time to think. Susan still had no answer. She could have made up the answer. She decided not to. Honesty and integrity cause Susan opportunities in the corporate world.

What Susan fears most is not the promotion or bonus she will not get. What she fears most is disappointing her mother. Being born with all the potential and letting it all go to waste.

Disappointment kills people slowly, painfully and cold-heartedly.
